Master Zhongxian Wu from Hua Shan, China teaches Qigong
Workshop at Kahuna Valley
Zhongxian Wu, a recognized master of multiple lineages of classical
Qigong, music, calligraphy, Tai Chi, Chinese astrology, and martial
arts will be offering a two-day Qigong workshop for the first time on
Kaua'i this weekend September 10 and 11. This class will be in
addition to the regular Qigong classes taught by Francesco and Daisy
Garripoli held the first Saturday of each month. Hosted by the
non-profit Kahuna Valley organization, Master Wu's sincere, grounded
presence, combined with decades of practice and experience in various
temples in China, has helped him to transmit the essence of
traditional Chinese wisdom for those interested in learning about
traditional self-healthcare. He has instructed thousands of students
in the art of Qigong and has authored numerous works about Qigong and
China's ancient life sciences.
He is a popular lecturer and presenter on Qigong and Chinese astrology
in China and on the mainland. He has presented several Qigong
workshops and lectures at the National Qigong Association conferences
(USA) and the World Qigong Congress. Currently, Master Wu teaches
Qigong, Tai Chi and Chinese Calligraphy in the Classical Chinese
Medicine Department at the National College of Naturopathic Medicine
(NCNM). He offers a Chinese Shamanic Qigong and Tai Chi Training
program. People have found that this program provides a strong
foundation for the study of Shamanic Qigong, internal alchemy, and
Qi-healing skills, including classical Chinese energy techniques and
medical Qigong applications.
Coming from the Huashan region of China, Master Wu participates in a
Qigong research program sponsored by National Institutes of Health
(NIH) in Washington, DC.
Chinese Shamanic Tiger Qigong
The Shamanic Tiger Qigong system that Master Wu teaches comes from the ancient Mt.
Emei Sage Style. It includes the use of mudras, mantras,
visualization, and conscious connection to the "Qi field" of the Emei
lineage. The entire workshop will be conducted in the tradition of
special Shamanic Qigong, in which a lineage-based Qi field is created
and held to give participants an enhanced experience of Qigong.
The Tiger is the symbol of vital energy and Zheng Qi (Righteous Qi) in
traditional Chinese culture. It is the spiritual animal of the Western
Direction and is related to the Queen Mother of the West (Xi Wang Mu).
(To this day, some people hang the image of the Tiger in their homes
to protect the family.) From a classical Chinese medicine perspective,
one will never get sick if one can maintain Zheng Qi in the body.
Physically, Zheng Qi is represented most strongly by the lung, which,
what some Chinese believe, prevents evil Qi from invading the body.
Evil Qi includes all factors (i.e. emotions, food, weather, trauma,
etc) that may cause illness. This relationship between Zheng Qi and
the Tiger explains why the spiritual animal associated with the lung
is the Tiger.
The Tiger form is based on symbolic power. The essence of Chinese
Shamanism, it has both medical and martial arts implications. The
Tiger form movements imitate the actions of the tiger and increase the
harmonizing Qi of the whole body by strengthening the lung Qi, which
governs and energizes all meridians of the body. Through regular
practice, the Tiger form will tonify one's Zheng Qi, thereby releasing
and protecting the body from evil Qi.
This workshop focuses on deepening participants' understanding of all
styles of Qigong. It is appropriate for those with no prior Qigong
experience as well as experienced practitioners. Master Wu offers limited private
healing sessions during his four-day stay on Kaua'i.
